California Fitness – Part 5 (The End)

Termination of one year membership contract
It has been eleven months here and I have decided to terminate my contract. This is because I don’t really go California Fitness that often after I have changed to my new job. I went once a week after I got my new job because my new job’s office is not walking distance to this Menara Standard Chartered California Fitness.

However, my last day in California Fitness will be another three more months. One month is because I think I paid extra one month in the beginning. Another additional two more months is because I managed to get two friends to join California Fitness last time.

Yeah some tips, if you guys thought of stopping your membership, you need to let them know one month plus before the end of your contract period. Otherwise, they will assume that you will continue your membership with them.

Ten kilometers for the first time
Today, I tried for the first time to run ten kilometers. Well, it was tiring of course but I think the challenging part is to completed it, ten kilometers. Next greater challenge is to complete it in better duration. I was so tempted to give up half way because after some run and some calculation (by calculating how much time I use to run for one km), I realize that these ten kilometers are going to take at least one hour plus. Besides that, I also felt some pain in somewhere my rib and the appendix as I ran. When that happened, I need to slow down myself and after I felt better, I increase the pace again and I did this a couples of times due to the pain I mentioned. Anyway, with some determination and self-motivation, I managed to complete it at the end and it took one hour and twenty minutes. I don’t think this is my best time yet because I don’t really always have these appendix problem. So, I think I will do this again two weeks later

A near to death experience on the way to Melaka

While Saturday, 27 September 2008 was my first outstation trip for work purpose, 7 November 2008 was my first outstation trip by myself. The previous trip, I went to Kuantan. This time, I was called to go to Melaka.

Because I need to reach there by 9am, I need to leave from my house early. I plan 6am, but at the end I left at 6.50am.

I never drive to Melaka by myself. The last time I went to Melaka is probably 8-9 years back. So, I asked many people for the location map. I also went to GoogleMap to find the direction. Well, to my amazement, I could find the exact path from my house address to the specific destination in Melaka. This cool Googlemap, will provide you the driving direction, the driving duration (ie mine here is 2 hours 8 minutes), and the length of the destination (ie mine here is 150 km).

So, I printed out all the driving direction though at the end I didn’t really use it; I just used my mother’s hand-written location map, which I find it simplier to me.

Thank God, my mother’s location map helps. I am now at Lebuhraya Utara – Selatan. As I’m driving in the middle lane at 100-105 kph, suddenly a huge lorry at the left lane move to my lane. To my shock, the lorry turn horizontol. By reflect (this must God’s help), I quickly turn to right lane to avoid it. I can’t remember if I check to see if there is car at the right lane or not. As I turn to the right lane to avoid it, I don’t have 100% confident that I can avoid the huge lorry. I thought I might kena a bit perhaps at the back of my car or just a nudge. Thank God, the lorry didn’t hit my car, even a nudge.

California Fitness – Part 4

May and June’s Update
Some same old update thing from me. For May, my attendance is 69% (miss four times) and for June is 85% (miss twice). Looks like May is the worst month at the moment. Anyway, just to update you guys that I’m still on. I think the one big thing I hope to ‘fix’ is my fat tummy. Not sure why it has gotten big. Maybe I eat too much nasi lemak and drink much milo (two cups a day recently). Right now, my weight, it is still hanging in between around 56.5 kg. What I should gain is muscles, not fat. Hehe…

Beware of Thief
Last Monday, 30 June 2008, I lost my watch in Men’s Changing Room. Well, I believe it was stolen. What happen is that time I was weighing myself. Because I want to have more accurate measurement, I took out as many thing from me as possible. So, I took out my watch and my locker keys and put them down on the floor, together with other things like my water bottle, pen, writing pad and a pair of shoes.

Then, I went to the basin, which is just besides the weighing scale, to wash my hands. Then, I went back to grab all my stuff and quickly go to my locker and then to changing room to changing. Only when I was changing, I realize that my watch was there! I went back, it wasn’t there.

Actually, I have already heard that there are lockers got unlocked by thief and I know that I shouldn’t put my watch on the floor just like that. In fact, this is the first time I did that. I thought, “Aiya, I am sure won’t get it one lah. So short time. How can it possible?”. Well, my foolishness and naiveness paid the price.

Though it was not too expensive, but I felt the pinch of it. I like my watch. I rely on it a lot. But, no matter how I felt, I won’t able to get it back. I just need to learn from the lesson. So, if you are a California Fitness member as well, beware of thief. They are out there and they are quick as well. Don’t look down or take it for granted, even five seconds. They can get it done in less that, easily, I believe.

Street evangelism is Painful but can be Fun & Interesting

Pain and Fear of Rejection
Painful because at times you might get nothing but just rejections after rejection :-(. And I’m sure it hurts and nobody likes it, right? Me too. But, take heart as it is God they are rejecting. We just gotta keep doing our part, to reach out to them and to share bible to them when got chance. At the end, whether they appreciate it or whether they will respond to the bible or not is not within our control.

Am I still afraid to be rejected? Yes, I am. But, will I quit to go for my street evangelism? No. Though I struggle to do street evangelism alone at this time but I can do it together with my small group brother in Christ. In spite of pain or fear of rejection, we should not give up on evangelism. Maybe we can rest to get recovered for a while, change the way of doing it as there are many ways of doing evangelism, but not to totally stop doing it. There are people out there who is looking for a true God and meaning of life.

Fun & Interesting
Thank God, my street evangelism for this year are not 100% just rejections. There are times we (we because I usually do it with another Christian together) manage to meet some people to have some conversation with. Sometimes we have some good talk. Sometimes it can turn out to be fun too, example

  • Someone whom Roger evangelized before in the past, gave Roger and I a famous and expensive donut each. (But, please don’t aim or expect for free food when you go for out-reach. :-D)
  • A black guy who spoke English with us in the beginning but in the middle of the conversation spoke fluent mandarin. I was suprised and at the same time a little embarassed because I am weak in my mandarin. The reason why he could speak Mandarin because he is studying in Taiwan.

Some other “special” people we met are like

  • A young guy and is Pastor’s son. He is responsible for the evangelism area for his church at Singapore. Roger and him managed to exchange ideas for evangelism.
  • Someone who started a church and a worship leader. He has his full-time job but he is also a part-time minister.
  • Long distance runner. He said the longest he ever ran is 40KM, which he did in around two hours.

This makes street evangelism quite fun and interesting. 😀

Encouraging responses
Some encouraging responses we got is when,

      Person A said,

“I’m looking for church.”

      Person B said,

“I’m looking for cell group to join.”

More encouraging is the person we met, came to our church and study the bible. Imagine if we close out mouth when we pass by that person, that person will never have the chance to got to know the bible.

Some understanding towards rejection
One of the reasons why there are so many rejections during street evangelism is there are so many conman people out there especially in this KL city. Perhaps they trusted strangers before and get cheated at the end and felt so hurt by it.

Some sincerely ask/beg for money. Some insincerely ask/beg for money. Some who approach you for MLM business or to sell you insurance.

And, think about it. I myself also have rejected many who approached me in the street too.

So, I guess, for Christian who plan to have a street evangelism, choosing a suitable place is quite important. Don’t choose a place where the “market” (reputation) is already bad (means the places where you will bound into most conman or those who pass MLM pamplets.). Example, KotaRaya, PuduRaya, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Hang Tuah LRT station, Masjid Jamek LRT station and etc.
