Buy Books From Amazon.com

First time bought some books from Amazon.com. Do you know that you can buy second-hand books from Amazon at a good deal? The shipping cost back to Malaysia to not cheap though but you can consider another cheaper alternative which is to ship for your US address Portland (you can get this address from comgateway.com) for free (if your purchase is above USD25 at Amazon.com). Then ship them from Portland to Malaysia. It works. Last week I got my books already.

Actually how much shipping cost depends also how heavy is your package. I thought at comgateway, my charges is based on my 0.83 KG volume but actually they charge me 1.5 KG instead. This is because 0.83 KG is actual weight but 1.44 KG is my Volumetric weight (Comgateway’s charges is based on every increment of 0.5 KG. Example, 0.3 KG will be based on 0.5 KG). Volumetric weight depends on how bulky the package is. Larger packages have a higher volumetric weight. The actual weight of a package refers to how heavy it is. For new customer at comgateway, you got 10% shipping cost discount also.

It is best to compare amazon’s with comgateway shipping cost first, then only decide to choose which one. For Amazon, one of the problems is, some of the item, they don’t ship to Malaysia.

Monkey Tale

One day, an old man and his assistant arrived at a farming village. The old man gathered all the villagers and told them that he is in the business of buying and selling monkeys and that the reason why he has come to their village is because there is a forest next to that village which is infested with lots of monkeys. He told the villagers he would pay $10 for every monkey they bring him.

So some of the villagers started to stop work on their farms to go into the forest to catch monkeys. They brought their monkeys to the old man and true enough, he paid them $10 for every monkey. Words spread and not long after, more and more of the villagers stopped working on their farms to go into the forest to catch monkeys. And they were all paid $10 for every monkey they delivered to the old man.

Because more villagers were now monkey hunters, it became more and more difficult to catch monkeys as their numbers started to dwindle. The supply of monkeys started to come down. So the old man gathered all the villagers and told them he would pay $20 for every monkey they bring him. Wow! That sounds great and the villagers started to drum up the beat to look deeper into the forest and higher into the trees to look for more monkeys. And they were paid $20 for every monkey they caught and everyone was happy.

As more and more villagers turned monkey hunters, the monkey population in that forest started to dwindle very significantly and it became increasingly difficult to catch even one monkey a day. As such, the villagers started to return to their farms to work.

Once again, the old man gathered all the villagers and told them that as he is running out of time and he needed more monkeys, he would up the stakes and pay $50 for every monkey delivered to him. He also told the villagers that as he has to leave the village for a few days to attend to some business in town, they can deliver the monkeys to his assistant and his assistant has been instructed to pay $50 for every monkey caught.

The villagers got all excited and went deep into the forest to look for monkeys but by this time, there were no monkeys to be found. The villagers approached the assistant and told him the $50 offer is wonderful but the monkeys were simply not there.

That assistant then said to the villagers……”I know there are very few monkeys left in the forest. But here in my cages, I have thousands of monkeys. Tell you what…why not you buy these monkeys from me at $35 each. Then when the old man comes back, you can sell your monkeys to him for $50 and make $15 each.”

“Wow! That sounds like a great idea”, the villagers thought. So they bought as many monkeys as they could from the assistant at $35 each.

After that day, the villagers never saw the old man or his assistant again

Last year, I captured some ‘nice waterfall’ charts for some stocks and this monkey tale is a good illustration to explain these charts. Besides the monkey tale’s explanation, I also observed one major pattern of all these stocks – All these stocks’ financial report are very weak – continuous loosing money almost every quarters.

Conclusion, when this type of stock keep going up, don’t try to use whatever technical analysis to buy up. Technical analysis won’t work here. And when it is the time to waterfall, you might not have the chance at all to get out. Worst of all, some game over (delisted) at the end. By the way, I am not one of the victims. Just feel that the chart is sort of ‘nice’ for me to capture it and to share to all. Next time, I will try to share some on the best principles I have ever learnt in stock market investment this year.

Beware Of Electrostatic in Petrol Station

Do not get back into your vehicle during refueling — even when using the nozzle’s automatic hold-open latch. If you must reenter your vehicle, discharge the static electricity buildup when you get out by touching the outside metal portion of your vehicle, away from the filling point, before attempting to remove the nozzle.” – Source hcdoes.org

Count Your Blessings – First few months in GHL

One more week will make up four months in GHL and it is good to count my blessings in these first four months in GHL. Compare with my previous job as support in BCSIS:

  • For this new job, I don’t have to standby by 24 hours like previously. Imagine getting the support call during the midnight can affect the health even it just happens once a week. Besides that, after working hour, I can have my own activities and don’t have to be in standby mode (one hour to reach onsite if needed).
  • Since I no longer work as support, this means that I have reduced the use of handphone. Using much handphone is not good for health because of the radiation.
  • In the past, during my support week in Bank Negara, I will park my car there first and walk to office and in the evening, I will walk back to Bank Negara for onsite standby support. This can be bad for the health because of air pollution in that area. Now I no longer needs to.
  • This new job has much better pay than the previous job. Even though I am still under probation, at least I have benefited for four months and should be able to ‘survive’ for awhile hopefully 🙂
  • Lunch kaki – Here I found some good lunch kaki (companion). Four of us usually have lunch together in office pantry and always had a good talk. Talk about work problems and almost everything under the sun. Each feel comfortable to share (including personal and deeper topic) and listen to another. In my previous job, I usually have lunch myself. Even though there are friends there but we hardly talk or share much compare to now.
  • Opportunity to manage – I had non managerial experience before and this is the first job I was given the chance to be a manager. Moreover, in a public listed company. I think usually people need to start from maybe as assistant manager then manager, but I was directly given the chance. Even though I could not cope with it, these fours months are good experience and much blessing already.

Share the positive first. Maybe next time, I share more the problems and challenges I am facing here 🙂
