Don’t keep too much cash and valuables at home

Last two days, our apartment got broke in by burglars. Yes, even apartment is not safe. My father and I didn’t seem to lost anything but my mom got losses. I would appreciate if you don’t ask further details because we do not want to repeat the story anymore and my mom hope to quickly forget about it.

My purpose of writing this is to advice everyone not to put a lot of money in your home. (I suspect that burglar has some high technology device which can detect cash). I know some might be afraid to put the money into banks, afraid that someone will steal your money in the bank. Here, my advice for you is to open an account which is just meant for saving, whereby you can only deposit money and without any ATM card. Also, you can perhaps give a special instruction to the bank officer that anyone who try to withdraw money from this account, the bank need to call up the owner for verification. I am not sure if this can be done but you can try. Once again, beware of burglars!

Another real case happened which I wrote about it on 24th April 2008 – my friends’ house got broke-in by burglars

Losses include a laptop, camera and some cashes. I guess this incident should give us a red alert of our house. Perhaps one of the most practical things we can do is to get some good locks. Yes, good locks means they are more expensive but eventually they ‘save’ your money more.

Have the best lock in the world but forget to lock it is equally useless. Other thing came to my mind is we should be reminded of our negligence, which means we should make sure all locks are well locked before we leave the house and not to be careless. Otherwise, our carelessness, even once, can be too costly to bear.

If you suspect someone broke-in your house during mid-night and you were inside the room, don’t try to keep silent or rush out to battle with them. If you keep silent, they will continue to steal more and more things or even harm you eventually. If you rush out to battle with them, you might get hurt or killed by them. What I learnt from my father is just make some noise and them leave by themselves. Another wise thing to do is to lock the door immediately and switch on the room light and make a call to police or call your security guard if you stay in apartment or condo.

This incident happened 10 years ago when we first moved in into the apartment which I am still staying right now. A burglar came in by the kitchen. Those days, we didn’t lock the grill at the kitchen, so that burglar managed to climb over to enter through the kitchen grill. My father heard something not right and make some noise to let that burglar leave. When that burglar left, we saw our HIFI set at the kitchen but we lost one thing, a remote control. I think it is our TV’s remote control.

P/S on 31th December 2014 – Now our home got more ‘security system’. In fact, this ‘security system’ has protected our home before. The house door was ‘open’ by the burglars but that time nothing lost because of the security system alarm I believe. Contact me if you wish to know more how we secure our house and what security system we use.

Blessings of the year 2008

Thank you, God for blessing me with good health. When I have comprehensive health checkup in the month of June, the result was okay. Besides that, the result also let me know that I didn’t have enough antibody for Hepatitis B. If I didn’t take this health checkup, I won’t know that. Lastly, from 7 January 2008 until 31 December 2008, I didn’t take any Medical Certificate (MC), which is a good sign for my health for year 2008. I think my regular workout in California Fitness and playing badminton also help my health.

Thank you, God for providing me a good job after I have tendered my resignation letter. When I tendered my resignation letter, I still haven’t gotten any offer but after that I got an offer. Actually I plan to take a break after I resigned, but imagine if I took the break and after that financial crisis hits, I wonder what will happen to me now. I will be most probably be unemployed for very long. Thank God for providing me this job. Colleagues are okay. Superior is good and open for input. I know when I face any problems, I can bring up to him freely. I can learn things and at the same being paid and the pay is good. By the way, my first day is 25 August, which is also my birthday. Perhaps, this job is a birthday present from God. 🙂

Thank you, God for putting some Christian friends into my life to listen to my life problems and their input to me. They are Kok Keng (my group leader, whom I shared the most problems to), DavidCKK (for his concern and who spur/push me to talk to Kok Meng), David Chong Weng Meng (aka Klang David, my buddy, whom told me to look at myself and his friendship to me), Ang (for concern and his friendship to me).

Thank you, God for this material blessing. My mum sold her good condition car to me with a good price. The car is with power steering making the control of the car much easier compare to the my previous car.

Thank you, God for His protection. I travelled outstation a lot this year of 2008. For work related purpose, in total, I travelled three times, once in Kuantan and twice in Melaka. Travel to outstation more also means more risks. I also travelled three times to Singapore. Thank God for protecting me during all these long journey travellling especially on 7 Nov 2008 which was a near to death experience. God has given me another life to live a little longer in this earth.

Another hobby – Badminton

Around two months ago, my team lead invited me to play badminton together during one Saturday. I went and ever since then, I have been playing badminton consistently every Saturday for two-three hours. In these two months, I felt that my badminton has improved especially my smash (the one of the area which I am weakest at in the past). Now, I am able to smash with more power and steepness.

I think it is good to keep it up, for exercise, to help working relationship with colleaguesand a way to reach out to people perhaps. I also feel the joy to ‘coach’ one of them who just learn how to play badminton. It is also enjoying to ‘train’ with others as well. During this ‘training’, it was satisfying to smash powerfully and the other side able to return those smashes and continously. It was also satisfying for vice versa.

California Fitness – Part 5 (The End)

Termination of one year membership contract
It has been eleven months here and I have decided to terminate my contract. This is because I don’t really go California Fitness that often after I have changed to my new job. I went once a week after I got my new job because my new job’s office is not walking distance to this Menara Standard Chartered California Fitness.

However, my last day in California Fitness will be another three more months. One month is because I think I paid extra one month in the beginning. Another additional two more months is because I managed to get two friends to join California Fitness last time.

Yeah some tips, if you guys thought of stopping your membership, you need to let them know one month plus before the end of your contract period. Otherwise, they will assume that you will continue your membership with them.

Ten kilometers for the first time
Today, I tried for the first time to run ten kilometers. Well, it was tiring of course but I think the challenging part is to completed it, ten kilometers. Next greater challenge is to complete it in better duration. I was so tempted to give up half way because after some run and some calculation (by calculating how much time I use to run for one km), I realize that these ten kilometers are going to take at least one hour plus. Besides that, I also felt some pain in somewhere my rib and the appendix as I ran. When that happened, I need to slow down myself and after I felt better, I increase the pace again and I did this a couples of times due to the pain I mentioned. Anyway, with some determination and self-motivation, I managed to complete it at the end and it took one hour and twenty minutes. I don’t think this is my best time yet because I don’t really always have these appendix problem. So, I think I will do this again two weeks later

Jewish character in the book of Matthew

The Jewish character of this Gospel is evident in many ways. There are many indications that Matthew expected that his readers would be familiar with Jewish culture.

  • Matthew doesn’t translate Aramaic terms such as raca in Matthew 5:22. Mark translates Aramic term, Corban in Mark 7: 11
  • Matthew refers to Jewish customs without explanation (i.e. Matthew 15:2. But, Mark explains the same custom at Mark 7:3-4; see also Matthew 23:5).
  • Matthew starts his genealogy with Abraham (Matthew 1:1).
  • Matthew frequently refers to Jesus as the “Son of David.”
  • Matthew uses the more Jewish phrase “Kingdom of Heaven” instead of “Kingdom of God.”
