Career Stability - Part 1
Created on Saturday, 24 January 2009It has been five months working at BCSIS. I think overall I did okay in these probation period.
Research:- Research and tried some ways and technique to reduce the time to generate a report. The result is, using stored procedure to generate the report is faster than inline-query around 30%-40%.
Development:
- Convert existing a CIMB report from in-line query to stored procedure.
- Develop an extended utility to generate benchmark report. With this benchmark report, we will be able to know when capturing, tag as balanced, PV, clearing batch was done. So that, we will know whether the problem is due to operation's slowness or system's slowness.
- Develop an extended repair tool/utlity to fix check digit problem (which occur daily for AMBK in KL1).
On-site support:
- On-site support for KL1.
- Investigate and provide listing for eight problem logs and reverted back to end-users.
- Went to capturing center (Kuantan and Melaka) for some testing and on site support.
- Created some on-site support scripts for some routine checking and resetting. (to make on-site support job easier, faster and can be done by anyone)
Training:
- I train new colleague about some knowledge, scripts and steps for on-site support.
Testing:
- OCBC Posting bug-fixes.
I see myself improve little by little about the industry knowledge, system flow, business process flow and my technical skills (VB.NET and TSQL). I am still 'blur' at many things but I will keep telling myself to just keep learning and just continue to give my best to understand and to gain working knowledge and always get motivated and not easily discouraged by what I am weak at or what I am 'blur' at.
One of the things I plan to do is to do some useful documentation like process/flow chart for myself and also for others. I also hope to compile all the FAQ and to create as many on-site support scripts (to make on-site support job easier, faster and can be done by anyone)
I am also thankful to have bunch of good and helpful colleagues especially my team lead who has been patiently teach and train me. Hopefully, I will keep improving for one more month and get confirmed at the end.
